Kristin Hunter Lattany was born on September 12, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her first novel, God Bless the Child, was published in 1964 and won the Philadelphia Athenaeum award. She wrote her first children's book, The Soul Brothers and Sister Lou (1968), at the suggestion of her publishers.
